Globalization: a process of increasing interconnectedness among nations, cultures, and people (Straubhaar lecture, Globalization)
According to Prof. Straubhaar's lecture on globalization, hybridization is the interaction or mixing between previously separated cultures over time. This is due to ease of access to information all around the world through technology such as the internet. Globalization gives previously isolated countries or communities exposure to other cultures and commodities.
An example of this is the show Iron Chef America. This show is based off of the successful competition cooking show Iron Chef from Japan where three top chefs represented the Iron Chefs of Japan. Producers realized the potential for this show in the United States, and adopted the idea but tailored it for American audiences.
